Had a busy weekend and just trying to catch up on some rest from all the studio shoots/workshops that happened over the past week. I am almost done editing my photos and ready for another shoot. But in the meantime, I have to learn more on video editing and get a grasp on the programs and my little itty bitty video camera. =) So heres another model video that I did last week for MC2 . Miami. Back Home

Just got back from a short weekend with family in Ohio. My cousin recently got married and allowed me to take a trip to good ol' YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO. It's been awhile since my first visit their. If I recall, it was almost 12 years since my first visit there.
This time around, I decided to not bring my camera. Can you believe it, a photographer without a camera? haha. Instead, I brought my video camera. Luckily I can still take still images with the camera.
The trip was great. Cool afternoons, 76 degrees, and 55 degree evenings, made the trip worthwhile. From farmland to Pittsburgh downtown, the view was different than the standard Florida scene. I took mostly video so nothing right now to post other than this picture of Pittsburgh downtown. It was a magnificent view. Wish it didn't rain that day. =\

I've been slacking on updating my website, so I'll post some of my new work here in the meantime. These images are from a shoot I did 3 weeks back. Roza @ MC2 was in town for a few weeks and is now back home to her country. She was amazing in front of the camera and a pleasure to work with from start to finish. She will be missed. Hopefully she comes back for season so I can work on my upcoming film projects with her. And as for any photographer/client looking for a model, book her if she's in town, she will not disappoint.

Time to Revamp

It has been over two months since my last blog entry. My early summer was a slow start, but things are looking good now. In the latter end of July and early August, I had 3 lookbooks from clients coming from New York, St. Louis, and here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I am happy to say that things are looking brighter.
And for those who noticed, I recently picked up on video and video editing the past month. With the addition to my video, SKINNY INTERN, has contributed her time in editing and assisting me in most of my shoots. She's become my sidekick in all i've done in the past few months, along with good friends Alejandro Larramendi, MUA's Alvin Matium, and Mara Fernandez. I thank everyone for their help and look forward to bigger and better.
I will be posting more images and videos of recent photoshoots and other lookbooks when I catch up on my photo editing. Til then, I promise to keep you posted.
I'm back from my hiatus on blogging and now is the time to "revamp" my look, my portfolio, my website (especially), and my photography. Stay tuned.

Just a little behind the scenes from the lookbook of the SIX TWENTY SEVEN clothing line. The client flew in from New York and shot at TYE Studios for some product photography and then off to Fort Lauderdale Beach for their "fall/winter" lookbook. The images and theme for the book was a "cold" beach similar to L.A. winters. Moody, cloudy, and secluded.

[NEW] TYE Studios Blog

Good day everyone. Just wanted to keep you posted on a new blog that I've had the pleasure of taking over and revamping for the past week. It is for my resident photo studio and rental house, TYE STUDIOS. The blog needed a fresh new look and updated entries so I thought I'd add some additional time to working on that blog and sacrificing a bit of my blog for the time being. Not to say that I will be ignoring my blog. Just dedicating more attention to my home. TYE Studios is everything to me. It is what made me, ME. I as a photographer, am everything and more thanks to the studio. Like I once stated before, I am a product of the studio. Without it, I would not have gotten this far in such a short time.

Polaroid Fever

Last night's spontaneous shoot with SKINNY INTERN was the jolt that I needed for the year ahead of me. I've been wanting to slow down and reorganize my structure as a photographer. I wanted to go back to shooting with medium format film for sometime now, but have not found anyone "worthy" of "film". It takes a new level of patience and focus for me as a photographer, and the same goes as well as the model. I never was the type of photographer who likes to click "just to" do it or to move the model. If I can do a shoot with with just 3 rolls of 120 film (1 roll per look), I'll do it, but the model needs to show me that she's giving me 100% or more. I need to better my craft, my precision, my control of lighting, composition and more important, my direction as a photographer. I don't need 1000 images from a photoshoot to go to the trash bin. What does it say about me as a photographer? Do I get lucky with my shots, or did I make it happen? I would like to say, "that I envisioned the shot and that I created the environment, mood, lighting, etc, and with the click of my camera and the help of a talented model, I CAPTURED THE MOMENT"

There will only be one ORIGINAL. Long live film and polaroids......

"One of the reasons the world has been slow to recognize his contributions is that he is an absolute chameleon," says Charlotte Cotton, the photography curator of the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art. Cotton, who considers Meisel the commercial photographer of our time, says he belongs in the pantheon of image-makers with Avedon, Penn, and Newton. "It's a remarkably risky position to take."

As I think of the photographer I would like to be like in the year of 2009, I think of Meisel as one of favorites. I have not been doing serious fashion photography for long (last January 2008), but as I develop a style or lack of it, I still need to look up to other photographers for inspiration and goal set my career in the world of fashion. Meisel's many different styles is what I would like to become. I don't want to be fixed to just one style or look. I want change and hopefully my next shoot will change it all. I "NEED" a MUSE.

Kiss from a Rose

[4:33 a.m.] Third night in New York, and a cold 47 degrees fahrenheit. This will be my last cold spell for spring 2009. I will be headed back to South Florida tomorrow evening and have nothing but humid 85 degree weather to deal with. Disappointing. I will miss New York for it's beauty and song. The lights, the obnoxious taxi horns, the art and artists, and the sounds of" SEAL's - KISS FROM A ROSE" in the subway on the L Train back to the East Village. Where else can you be in the U.S. and find someone serenading people on a train ride in a subway station? It was simply magical. I will miss everything about New York. I will have to make it back again in June for the LEBOOK - CONNECTIONS event. It will be my first time at the annual event and look forward to meeting hundreds of others with similar interest as mine in regards to photography. Hopefully I can continue to build my book before than and come back with something worth showing. I have less than 2 months, and little to no sleep in-between. Wish me luck. I need it if I ever want to make it in New York.

Good night New York. You will be missed.

I started this blog a little over a week ago with the intentions of hoping to let others know what the life of a studio fashion photographer is like in South Florida. And now, I think it's time to let others know a little more about me.

Julius Gregorio . Fashion Photographer. I started shooting fashion a little over two years ago, but seriously on January of 2008. I picked up my first DSLR shooting nature and landscape a few years back and stumbled across Commercial photographer (Andre Rowe) at a photo lab. Little did I know that meeting with him would change my photography completely. From landscapes and sunrises/sunsets, to models and high fashion. From digital SLR to film and digital medium format. Andre is head photographer and co-owner of TYE Studios of Ft. Lauderdale and I happen to sit right beside him (this very second) as house photographer for the studio as well.

If anyone wants to know what the product of a professional studio can do for a photographer, I am living proof of that. I grew up here at the studio and have been fortunate and blessed to have this studio as my residence. I am a product of TYE but am still a "beginner" in the World of Fashion. I have a lot to accomplish and have a lifetime of goals ahead of me. New York (in 4 days), Paris, London, Netherlands, L.A., and many more cities to reach out too. I hope in years time, I will be represented by some of the biggest photography agencies in the world. Starting with Art Partner, JED Root, Art + Commerce, just to name a few. With determination, passion, prayer, and a little bit of luck, anything is possible. And I thank my studio family at TYE for everything they have given me. I would not be where I am without them and the many talented artists and models who have helped me find a style and vision for my photography. Thank you all for everything.

I got to the studio (TYE STUDIOS) today and photographers Andre Rowe, David Kipper, and Donna Peplin were at it again, putting the Broncolor Scoro A4S studio pack to the test. You have to love the LIGHT and fast flash durations this pack can produce. Broncolor and Profoto all in one studio. What else can a photographer ask for? *BIG SMILE*

Just thought I'd post an upcoming preview of whats to come from Karol's shoot. I have a lot to edit, not including the distraction from what's happening here at the studio tonight and this coming weekend. Hope to finish most of my editing by Saturday cause its party time starting Sunday and New York next Thursday evening.

New York Modeling Agencies

With the number of modeling agencies in New York, where is a photographer to begin to find the next high fashion editorial models for a photoshoot. I hope to call and get several packages from the different agencies to help me find models for my April trip to New York. I only have a few days left to prepare. Need to put my teams together and see who is available the following weekend. Anyone wanting to work together? Stylist, MUA's, HAIR, etc. Let me know.

Photoshoot w/MC2 . Miami

Tomorrow I will be setting up a shoot with MC2 in hopes to shoot in the afternoon. All depending if my booker SKINNYINTERN gets me the model in less than 4 hours time. Haha. Thats what you call last minute. LMAO. What can I say, I like spontaneity.
Nothing big, just need to shoot to keep my game and skills on tack. In the words of my good friend, fellow photographer, and co-owner of TYE STUDIOS, ANDRE ROWE, "Photography is like any sport, you need to practice to better your skills as a photographer. Should you stop shooting, you will "get cold" and might actually move backwards instead of forward. And should it be "game-time" and you are asked to make the winning basket on the foul line in front of hundreds of people, will you be ready or will you freeze up? Practice practice practice. Shoot and "test" as often as possible, because when a client hires you for a job and it is most likely some new project you've never encountered before, you will already have the confidence and the skills to perform in front of that client.
photographers: Now when was the last time you picked up your camera? models: Or shot with a photographer? Perhaps something we all need to think of.

Just testing the new Broncolor Scoro A4S here at the studio along with the Pulso heads and Donna's Canon 5D Mark II. I needed to shoot since no one wants to shoot with me, so I got a purse as my model. How lucky. =) (p.s. those are real flowers on that purse. I had the 300 watt modeling lights on and it was killing the flowers. Haha. Stupid me. lol)
And thanks Tony for the help. That was a lot of lighting for just one product.

12 Days till New York

Headed back to New York this coming April 2. In many ways I can't wait, but I need to get my butt moving and plan my trip wisely. I need to look at a few photography agencies in hopes one day to be signed by one of my favorites. ART + COMMERCE and ART PARTNER. Also, need to plan for my shoot(s). Need to hustle. Times-uh-ticking!!!
